Meaning of Maa Baglamukhi

The word Baglamukhi is made up of two words, “Bagla” and “Mukhi“. The word Bagla is a corruption of Wagla (bridle). The name Bagla is made up of three letters. VA, GA, LA; The letter ‘VA’ refers to Varuni, the letter ‘GA’ refers to Siddhida and the letter ‘LA’ refers to the earth. Therefore, due to the supernatural beauty and erectile power of the mother, she got this name.

The Goddess has 108 names. In North India, Maa Bagalamukhi is known as Pitambara. Pitambara means, the goddess who is related to yellow or golden color.

The place of manifestation of Baglamukhi Devi is believed to be in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. It is said that they were manifested by turmeric-colored water. Due to the yellow color of turmeric, she is also called Pitambara Devi.

According to another belief, the appearance of the goddess is related to Lord Vishnu. As a result, the goddess is endowed with sattva qualities and belongs to the Vaishnava sect. But, in some other circumstances, the goddess is also associated with the tamasic quality.

Maa Baglamukhi is one of the ten forms of Goddess. Pitambara Maa Bagalamukhi is Ashtamahavidya. By worshiping them both Riddhis (Wealth, Good Fortune, Prosperity) and Siddhi (Supernatural Powers or spiritual Growth) are obtained.
